Okay, yes, fine, I'll give you that, we wouldn't have the Harry Potter series we know if Voldemort hadn't killed the Potters when Harry was a baby. Shut it, you say, shut it! (Of course, this way we do get a lovely chance to speculate about whether JKR's prophecies are self-fulfilling, and about other ways the prophecy might have worked out if Voldemort didn't actually know about it.) So the real question is.why didn't Dumbledore interview Professor Trelawny in his office at Hogwarts? Then no one would have overheard, Voldemort wouldn't know it existed and wouldn't want to get it out of the Department of Mysteries, and the prophecy would be in Dumbledore's back pocket instead of a liability.
